Celebrating with Cupcakes, Cookies and Causes

September is the month of spring flowers, warm sunshine breaking through the winter chills, and the season for the RSPCA Cupcake Day events to raise funds for fluffy friends in need. 

It also happens to be the month of my birthday, and so it has been a long time dream of mine to celebrate my birthday by participating with my colleagues, friends and family.

If there are two things I'm known for, it's my love of cupcakes, and my love of dogs, so it's the perfect plan! 

Even more so since I have a lot to thank the RSPCA for. For my 16th birthday, I adopted my first dog, and to date, only dog through them, a 2 and a half year old Kelpie Cross named Ash. 

Ash didn't suit his cuddly, goofy, sweet nature, so I renamed him Ryley, after the main character in one of my favourite childhood books, Rye. 

He was my loving companion, my guardian against kangaroos and feathered friends, which I did not ask for nor want as he had to be fished from the water after chasing a duck on more than one occasion.

He slept at my feet through many long nights of studying, and attended a number of Saturday Nerf Wars with my friends at the local park. 

And so it broke my heart when my family's circumstances changed, and after trying everything I could to hold onto him for years, I had no choice but to rehome him.

At first, I tried to rehome him myself, hoping to keep in touch so I could know how he was doing. 

But after receiving a call from a vet that they had found my best mate stranded and lost, I knew it was best to entrust him back to the RSPCA, where he would be safe.

His page never made it onto the RSPCA's adopt-a-pet... because he was adopted before they could even advertise him!

And so to my good boy, happy Gotcha Day. I hope to raise some money for dogs, cats and any creature, big or small, who gets a warm bed, a belly full of food, and a new family, sometimes more than once, thanks to the RSPCA.
